About The Author

Terry has lived in many parts of the United States, including Texas, New York, Washington and California.  Growing up, she always loved the outdoors, whether she was making mud pies, swinging on vines, picking wild berries or being caressed by the branches of a dogwood tree as she read or bird watched.

She loved cats then
and she still does.

Her love for books started early in life.  She fondly remembers her first bookstore trip, where she chose her very own book to buy and keep, The Sneetches and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss (which she still has).  She read all kinds of books and wrote poetry in elementary school and even made her own "library" in her room.

She now lives in a big blue house in the high desert of California with a terrific husband, one goldfish and two crazy cats. Her son, one of her greatest joys in life, is now grown and teaches the sixth grade.

Terry has a B.A. degree in Early Childhood Development and an international A.M.I. teaching diploma.  She taught for twenty-two years, as a pre-primary Montessori teacher, before deciding to follow her dream of writing for children (what she calls, "the best mid-life crisis ever!").  She's been writing since 1999, with her work appearing in pet magazines, children's and parenting magazines, and the children’s book market.
She has an MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts, including the Picture Book Concentration certification.

With seventeen published books, Terry has experienced the joys of being a writer in many ways.  She loves meeting children and adults through book signings, school visits and workshops.  She directed an elementary school writers’ club and is an active member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, and served on the SCBWI Central-Coastal California regional board for many years.

She is also on the Board of Directors of WhaleTimes, Inc., a non-profit organization that focuses on educating students and teachers about marine science and conservation.

Terry is represented by Tricia Lawrence of the Erin Murphy Literary Agency.
